DC/DC

Based on the consolidated Sinus PENTA inverter series and equipped with the new ES1040 DSP control board, our DC/DC converter adapts with flexibility to the control of DC networks and sources, managing energy flows based on different needs. The modular and scalable architecture is designed to guarantee maximum efficiency and reduced losses. Thanks to the integrated Modbus RTU and CAN bus protocols, and its bidirectionality, the DC/DC can manage the charging and discharging of batteries connected to DC networks. The converter can also be used for the control of photovoltaic systems, should it be necessary to power a direct current network. Upon request, the DC/DC can also be configured for special applications (SMES, fuel-cell etc.).

  • Adaptability for various applications Tailor-made
  • Configuration for high power
  • For the measurement of battery-side voltage, boards are installed to monitor the battery voltage in safety

Applications

Marine - marine network management

In maritime applications, the DC/DC converter is typically utilized to interface a battery with a DC bus. This DC bus is shared with other devices that can either supply or consume power.

Photovoltaic

In photovoltaic applications, the DC/DC converter can manage up to three strings of panels, regulating each string to an independent operating point. The extracted energy is used to power a DC bus or a direct current network.

Case history

Smes

SMES is an inductor made with superconductors that allows energy storage with very low losses. In collaboration with ASG Superconductors of Genoa, which handled the production of the superconductors and the SMES, Santerno developed the DC/DC converter to interface the SMES with the ETEF network. The latter is an innovative technological demonstrator for the research and development of naval electric propulsion systems, the result of a collaboration between the University of Trieste, Wärtsilä, and Fincantieri, with the support of the Ministry of Defense.
